4 seriously injured after car plunges into ditch

Firefighters who responded to an emergency call at 3.24pm found all four trapped in their car after it was believed to have skidded off the road before plunging into the ditch.

Four people suffered serious injuries when their Perodua Alza went off the road and crashed into a shallow ditch at Jalan York here today.

The four were identified as Barak Abdul Latiff, 64, who sustained minor injuries, while Rashidah Bee Shaik Mydin, 54, Fatimah Beevi PM Mydin, 59, and Mydin Fatimah PM Mydin, 63, suffered serious injuries.

Firefighters responded to an emergency call at 3.24pm and found all the victims trapped in their car after it was believed to have skidded off the road before plunging into the ditch.

“The fire department immediately carried out a rescue operation using special firefighting equipment,” said assistant director John Sagun Francis. “All the victims were swiftly extricated by 4pm.”

The victims were sent to Penang Hospital for treatment.
