Hamzah’s father-in-law dies 3 weeks after wife killed in Ipoh house fire

PETALING JAYA:
The father-in-law of opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin has died three weeks after he was hospitalised following a fire at his home in Ipoh.

Hamzah’s mother-in-law was killed in the blaze on June 19.

Ipoh police chief Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said Abdul Ghani Ngah, 83, died at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital at about 2pm today, Sinar Harian reported.

Ghani had been receiving treatment since the incident, after experiencing shortness of breath while trying to escape the fire.

His wife, Salmiah Nyak Matt, 84, died after she was found unconscious in a bedroom on the lower floor of the double-storey house, which was 80% destroyed.

Ghani was in a room upstairs when the fire broke out. Four other occupants, including a domestic helper, managed to escape unharmed.
