A neighbour alerted the authorities to a foul smell coming from the unit.

First responders forced open the door and found their decomposed bodies in the main room.

Timur Laut police chief Abdul Rozak Muhammad said  identification documents revealed that they were mother and daughter, aged 40 and two.

He said the case has been classified as a sudden death pending the autopsy results from Penang Hospital, Bernama reported.
