Ipoh police chief Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said his personnel checked on possible sources of the loud bang after they received reports at about 10.30am.
He said checks with the police’s general operations force found that no detonation exercises had been conducted today.
Similarly, the lands and mines office said no quarrying activities were carried out before noon, Utusan Malaysia reported.
“Checks with the meteorological department also confirmed that no seismic activities were recorded around Ipoh,” he said.
Abang Zainal also said they have yet to receive reports of injuries or damage to property related to the incident.
“An investigation is ongoing with other related agencies involved to ensure the safety of the community. We advise the public to keep calm and not to spread unverified speculation regarding the incident,” he said.
