
However, he said there were not many Malaysians, whether tourists, students or workers, in Iran.
“But we are arranging for them to leave the country. All visa arrangements have been finalised. God willing, they will make their way out within a day or two,” he said at his weekly press conference today.
He declined to go into details of the preparations made to evacuate the Malaysians, citing security reasons.
Yesterday, the foreign ministry advised Malaysians in Iran to leave the country by any available means, following escalating tensions in the region sparked by Israel’s recent strikes.
The ministry said it was monitoring the situation through the Malaysian embassy in Tehran, which has activated its operations room to assist citizens requiring help.
International media reported that Israel had targeted military and nuclear facilities as well as residential areas.
The strikes resulted in the deaths of numerous Iranian military personnel and civilians and caused significant damage to critical infrastructure in several parts of the country.
Iran has since launched dozens of missiles at Israel, with explosions reported in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.
