PETALING JAYA:
A three-year-old girl was found drowned in a canal near a padi field by her grandmother’s house in Kampung Bukit Kenak Tok Kundur in Jerteh, Terengganu, yesterday evening.

Besut police chief Azamuddin Ahmad @Abu said the victim’s father filed a report at around 8.53pm.

According to him, the victim was believed to have left the house through the back door unnoticed and had played alone in the backyard, Sinar Harian reported.

“She followed her parents to visit her grandmother’s home. At around 6.10pm, her uncle found her floating in the canal about 300m away from the house. She was then taken to Besut Hospital.

“A medical officer confirmed her death,” he said in a statement today.

Azamuddin said an autopsy would be carried out today, and that the case had been classified as sudden death.
