PETALING JAYA:
Police are investigating whether a local rapper and two of his friends who were detained in Laos last month with 86kg of cannabis are part of a syndicate or had been recruited as “drug mules”.

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said the foreign ministry had informed police of the arrests on June 3 following the trio’s detention upon arrival at Wattay International Airport, Laos, on May 27.

He said six bags were seized and 103 plastic packages of cannabis were found in them.

“They were believed to be en route to Germany from Laos via Thai Airways to deliver the drugs,” Sinar Harian quoted him as saying.

He said the trio, aged between 25 and 29, are being held at Phontong prison in Vientiane.

Razarudin said immigration records showed that they had departed from KLIA on May 22.

He said further investigations will be handled by Bukit Aman’s narcotics crime investigation department.
