IPOH:
Perak’s Sultan Nazrin Shah wants preventive measures to be implemented given the recent frequency of fatal road accidents.

According to the comptroller of the Perak royal household, Meor Hezbullah Meor Abd Malik, Sultan Nazrin said this morning’s accident, which claimed the lives of 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students, should serve as a lesson.

He ordered the authorities to identify existing weaknesses for improvement, especially in terms of law enforcement and regulation, so that such tragic accidents can be prevented from recurring.

“While it is a fact that life and death are determined by the Almighty, His Royal Highness is of the view that God urges humans to strive and make efforts to protect themselves from threats, calamities, dangers and disasters,” Meor Hezbullah said.

He added that Sultan Nazrin expressed his deepest sympathies and condolences to the families of the victims.

Earlier, Sultan Nazrin and Raja Permaisuri Tuanku Zara Salim, who is also UPSI chancellor, were at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital to console the families of victims and receive a briefing on the tragedy from the hospital.
