PETALING JAYA:
All PKR leaders will be required to undergo a mandatory course on laws pertaining to money laundering, corruption, and tax compliance, its deputy president, Nurul Izzah Anwar, said today.

Nurul Izzah said this was an early measure she wanted to introduce to ensure that the party and its leaders did not stray from their core values and principles.

She said the training module must be taken by all party leaders, whether at the central, state or divisional level.

“Good governance must be built on solid principles and knowledge. This is important to prevent efforts to make money politics and misconduct a culture in PKR.

“This is also to ensure every leader understands their responsibility and preserves their integrity. We are supposed to exemplify the change we want to see in others,” she said in a Facebook post.

Nurul Izzah also appeared to nip in the bud any speculation of her being appointed to a Cabinet post following Rafizi Ramli’s resignation as the economy minister, reiterating that her focus was on strengthening PKR.

“We will ensure the party’s top leadership is monitored well, and I intend to ensure that important tasks will be implemented.

“Our responsibility is to constantly remind each other that we cannot depart from the principles and values that we have held to and championed all this while,” she said.

Rafizi earlier today announced his resignation as the economy minister. He had said he would quit the Cabinet if he were to lose to Nurul Izzah in the race for the PKR deputy president’s post.

Rafizi had raised concerns about money politics in the internal elections, warning that such a practice would destroy the party.
