Utusan Malaysia reported that Sri Farhana Nabila Kamal, 27, and Fazlin Rahmat, 34, pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read out before judge Azman Mustapha.
They are accused of jointly robbing a 56-year-old woman of a necklace and bracelet while armed with knives at a home in Felda Chini Timur 1, Pekan, at 11.50pm on March 20.
The charge is under Section 395 of the Penal Code for gang robbery, read together with Section 397 of the same code for armed robbery, which provide for up to 20 years’ imprisonment and whipping if convicted.
On Wednesday, police arrested Sri Farhana after suspecting her of masterminding the robbery in which she had claimed to be a victim.
Pekan police chief Zaidi Mat Zin said the 27-year-old woman lodged a report on March 20, claiming she had been robbed by four masked men armed with knives while she was at her mother-in-law’s house.
The intruders made off with her mother-in-law’s jewellery worth RM12,000.
Deputy public prosecutor Azizah Ahmad did not propose bail in view of the relationship between Sri Farhana and the victim.
The court denied bail for both the accused and set June 25 for re-mention of the case.
