Kuala Lumpur police chief Rusdi Isa said Hah, also known as Thomas Hah, was arrested in the capital to assist in an investigation.
However, he did not disclose the nature of the probe.
Rusdi also said the police’s application for a remand order against Hah was denied by a court.
Ling, 42, was reported missing on April 9 while on her way to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) headquarters to give a statement related to an ongoing investigation.
MACC opened a probe into Ling and Hah in May last year for alleged corruption and money laundering offences.
Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain previously said the police were investigating the possibility that Hah was involved in Ling’s disappearance.
It is understood that no ransom demands have been made.
