In a statement on Facebook, the board of governors of Sekolah Menengah Keat Hwa said the principal, Chang Siew Hong, had resigned due to health reasons, while Khor Chee Beng stepped down from his position as vice-principal effective today.
“Khor will step down from his role as vice-principal starting May 1, 2025, pending the outcome of the investigation (into the sexual harassment allegations) or until further notice on alternative arrangements,” the board said.
It also said that the Kedah United Chinese School Committees’ Association has formed an independent team to investigate the matter.
On April 21, the board’s secretary Ng Kok Weng said the teacher in question was suspended from duty and prohibited from entering the school premises to avoid further distress to the students involved until investigations have been completed.
The 34-year-old teacher was detained after police received two complaints – one from a current student and another from a former student – regarding the alleged sexual harassment, Bernama reported.
Ng said the teacher had been employed at the school since 2016.
