Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the companies offering the discounts through the initiative include Aeon, Mydin, Jakel, Marrybrown, Genting, Old Town White Coffee, Zus Coffee, Socar, and Bateriku.
“The card is designed to provide union members with discounts at participating businesses,” he said at the 2025 Labour Day celebration at Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil here, Berita Harian reported.
Also in attendance were deputy prime ministers Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Fadillah Yusof, as well as human resources minister Steven Sim and Chief Secretary to the Government Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.
Earlier, Sim said the revised draft of the Gig Workers Bill is complete and will be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat next month.
He noted that the ministry has conducted research, consultations, and engagement sessions with stakeholders.
“We received online feedback and held a large-scale town hall. Over 3,000 stakeholders have been consulted,” he added.
The bill has been postponed twice, in December 2024 and March this year, following calls from several gig economy players for the government to refine it to ensure clarity, practicality, and swift implementation.
Key aspects of the bill include the introduction of an official definition for gig workers, the establishment of a minimum compensation, the creation of a complaint mechanism, and the provision of social security protections, such as mandatory contributions to the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso).
