PETALING JAYA:
The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) has written off the loan taken by Manarina Hasya Karim, a 22-year-old Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) student who died in a campus bus crash this month.

PTPTN said the RM12,629.82 loan was cleared through its Education Loan Group Takaful Protection Scheme, Bernama reported.

PTPTN representatives visited the late student’s family in Felda Chemplak, Labis, Johor, where they also handed over contributions under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme.

The family received RM1,500 in funeral aid, RM2,000 in cash, and a food basket.

“The tragedy on April 19 had a profound impact on the victim’s family. As an agency under the higher education ministry, PTPTN remains committed to CSR efforts and the welfare of its borrowers.

“PTPTN expresses its sympathy to the family of the deceased, and we hope that the benefits received through PTPTN’s Education Loan Group Takaful Protection Scheme can provide some relief and support to the next of kin of the deceased during this difficult time,” it said in a statement.

The group takaful scheme aims to protect the amount of loans that PTPTN has issued to borrowers and provides 24/7 coverage worldwide in the event of death or permanent disability.

To make a claim, the borrower’s next of kin must complete the Takaful Claim Application Form available at www.ptptn.gov.my and submit it with supporting documents to any PTPTN office or its headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.
