Central leadership council member Yahya Sahri said Azizah had submitted proof of her PKR membership, paid the required fees, presented her insolvency report, and had both a proposer and a seconder.
“At the time, there were (likely) no objections, so no one was aware.
“But once her background was reviewed, her status as a Pejuang member came to light and the objection (against her victory) was accepted,” he told FMT, confirming that Azizah’s name had since been removed from the re-election process.
Azizah won the post in the party’s divisional election held on April 13 with 450 votes, defeating G Manivannan (248 votes), Asri Abdullah (83 votes) and K Mariappan (52 votes).
Negeri Sembilan PKR chairman Aminuddin Harun earlier said fresh polls for the Jempol division would be held this week, following a decision made by the party’s central leadership council meeting yesterday.
He said Azizah only resigned from Pejuang after winning the Jempol division chief’s post. Following a thorough investigation, it was confirmed she was still a member of Pejuang.
He said the party had disqualified her and would now review the status of all division chiefs following the incident.
