PETALING JAYA:
A group of food delivery riders in Melaka did more than just send over their customers’ orders.

They also help deliver a suspected snatch thief to the police.

In a 47-second video currently making rounds on Facebook, several riders were seen chasing the suspect before wrestling him to the ground and berating him.

Melaka police chief Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the suspect allegedly snatched belongings from a 70-year-old man who was walking to his car at the supermarket’s parking lot.

The police were called, and when the suspect realised that there were authorities in the vicinity, he attempted to flee the scene.

“The food delivery riders who were in the area then gave chase,” Dzulkhairi said in a statement.

With the arrest, Dzulkhairi said police had solved five snatch theft cases reported in Melaka Tengah this year.

He said checks showed that the suspect had a criminal record. He also tested positive for nimetazepam, a hypnotic drug.

Police seized two mobile phones, a Yamaha Y15 motorcycle, several bank cards, an identification card, a bunch of keys, and RM107 in cash from the suspect.

He has been remanded for six days until April 29 for investigation under Section 392 of the Penal Code for robbery.
