PETALING JAYA:
The youth and sports ministry has introduced new standard operating procedures for organising concerts, especially electronic dance music (EDM) concerts.

Its minister, Hannah Yeoh, said the SOPs are a proactive measure to curb drug abuse among concertgoers and to ensure entertainment activities are conducted in a safe environment, Bernama reported.

The five items on the list include creating hydration points for attendees to overcome dehydration, providing a medical team for emergencies, and posters or videos on the dangers of drugs as well as actions that need to be taken by the nearest person if an emergency occurs.

They also call for nearby hospitals to be prepared to manage victims should there be an incident during a concert, and for the placement of K9 units for safety controls.

“Improving concert organisation SOPs are new conditions for EDM concert organisers, especially when it involves ministry facilities such as Perbadanan Stadium Malaysia and Sepang International Circuit,” Yeoh told a press conference at Bukit Jalil Stadium.

She said the circuit and Perbadanan Stadium Malaysia will share their monthly concert schedules with the police and National Anti-Drugs Agency.

She also encouraged all concert and event organisers at non-ministry facilities to use the SOPs to ensure the safety and wellbeing of attendees.
