
Razarudin said this came after police wrapped up the investigation.
“So far, statements have been recorded from 54 people. More witnesses may be called in future if necessary.
“Preliminary findings indicate the newspaper attributed the incident to a technical error,” he was quoted by Sinar Harian as saying.
Razarudin previously said 40 reports had been lodged nationwide regarding the incident.
Police had probed the matter under Section 3(1)(c) of the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act 1963 and Section 4(1)(b) of the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984.
Sin Chew had apologised for wrongly depicting the Jalur Gemilang on the front page of Tuesday’s edition of its newspaper. Its chief editor and deputy chief sub-editor were suspended amid the police probe.
The duo, who were detained for questioning by police for three hours on Thursday, were later released on bail.
