PETALING JAYA:
The recent water supply disruption at a Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) residential college was due to internal piping issues and not the main water pipeline, says the National Water Services Commission (SPAN).

SPAN said the main pipeline supplying water to UniMAP’s Sungai Chuchuh residential college did not have any issues and that it met the required minimum pressure levels.

The commission said state water firm Syarikat Air Perlis Sdn Bhd (SAP) conducted a site inspection on April 11 and met UniMAP’s management three days later following complaints from students about the water supply disruption.

“Investigations found that the issue stemmed from the internal piping system at the premises,” it said, adding that only a portion of the residential complex’s six blocks experienced this issue.

“The internal supply system in the affected area, beyond the bulk meter, is the responsibility of the premises owner or developer,” SPAN said in a statement.

It added that SAP had temporarily fixed the issue by bypassing the main meter and deploying tankers, directly pumping water into the building’s tanks.
