PETALING JAYA:
The Kajang magistrates’ court today allowed a request to bar all media from reporting on the case of a man who punched a student, a video of which has been shared widely on social media.

Utusan Malaysia reported that deputy public prosecutor Kalmizah Salleh made the application while proposing bail after the charges against the accused were read and recorded.

She did not mention a specific reason for the prosecution’s request. The accused’s lawyer Syarifuddin Zaid did not object to the request, saying it would protect his client’s safety.

It was reported last month that a secondary school student suffered a broken nose after being hit in a road dispute in Saujana Impian, Kajang.

Kajang police chief Naazron Abdul Yusof said the victim, a 17-year-old boy, lodged a report at 9.24pm that day claiming he had been attacked at around 2.15pm.

“The complainant received treatment at Kajang Hospital, which confirmed he had a broken nose from the attack.

“An investigation also found that the complainant did not have a driving licence, and he has been given a traffic summons,” Naazron said.

Naazron added that police later arrested the suspect, a former tourism agency consultant, to aid investigations.
