PETALING JAYA:
The 16-year-old girl kidnapped last Thursday in Seremban was stuffed into a suitcase to evade detection, Bukit Aman criminal investigation department director Shuhaily Zain said today.

Speaking at a press conference at Bukit Aman today, he said the victim was then transported by car to a hideout.

Shuhaily said the kidnapping was masterminded by a 31-year-old woman who was arrested with five other suspects yesterday.

He said the suspects arrested in Negeri Sembilan comprised three men and three women aged between 20 and 31 years old, and that police were still searching for another male suspect.

“In the April 10 incident, the victim went with her mother to a salon, and later exited the salon to go to a nearby sundry shop.

“On her way to the shop, the victim was kidnapped by a man who forced her into a vehicle and then sped off from the location,” Harian Metro reported him as saying.

Shuhaily said the victim’s mother was making a payment in the salon when the kidnapping occurred.

“The victim’s mother informed her father (the victim’s grandfather) of the incident. He then made a police report.

“Not long after, the victim’s mother received a call from a person who demanded a ransom of RM2 million to guarantee her child’s safety.

“The Negeri Sembilan criminal investigation department team then opened an operations room. I mobilised two teams from Bukit Aman to aid in the investigation,” he said.

Shuhaily said the victim was released a day after the kidnapping, after the family paid a ransom of RM280,000 and several gold chains.

“The suspects were divided into two groups – one to collect the ransom and the other to release the victim as soon as the ransom was paid.

“Investigations found that the group also used a metal detector to ensure the ransom bag did not contain any tracking device,” he said, adding that police were checking to see if the group had been involved in other kidnappings.

Shuhaily said following the arrests, police also found RM180,000 in cash and several pieces of jewellery.

“The six suspects have been remanded for 14 days. After questioning them, we found that the suspects had already spent RM100,000,” he said.

Shuhaily said the victim’s parents own an auto repair shop and a cake shop, while the grandfather owns a furniture factory.
