PETALING JAYA:
Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail has urged PKR to postpone the remainder of its division elections scheduled for this coming weekend following alleged “irregularities” in the polling process.

The PKR division elections in Kelantan, Terengganu, Penang, the federal territories, Pahang, Sabah, and Johor are expected to take place from Friday to Sunday.

“As a member of the central committee, I am speaking up and urging that the issue be addressed urgently.

“I also recommend that the remaining division elections scheduled for this weekend be postponed until these irregularities are investigated and resolved,” she said in a statement.

Rodziah had failed to defend her Shah Alam division chief’s post last weekend. She was defeated by Kota Anggerik assemblyman Najwan Halimi, who garnered 1,213 votes against her 899 votes.

She said that she found it “odd” she was the only candidate in her team that campaigned together, who not only lost but received the lowest number of votes.

“As a former assemblyman in Shah Alam, I’m well known here. And in the previous party elections, I actually secured more votes than the rest of my team,” she said.

Rodziah had served as the Batu Tiga assemblyman from 2008 to 2023. Amanah’s Danial Al Rashid Haron Aminar Rashid had won the seat in the Selangor state elections in August 2023.

Rodziah said she discovered some suspicious incidents in the Selangor PKR division elections last week, including the alleged failure to record votes for the division chief’s post in Shah Alam.

“This shouldn’t happen, because the system does not allow voters to proceed to the next screen without first casting a vote for the division chief.

“During the voting process, there were also cases where voters were forced to exit the system and re-download the ADIL app in order to vote again,” she said, adding that this was not due to internet access issues.

Rodziah added that she had filed a complaint with the PKR election committee.

“If I lost due to a lack of support, that would be understandable. But if the loss was due to other reasons, we deserve transparency,” she said.

Yesterday, it was reported that Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung and Rawang assemblyman Chua Wei Kiat will appeal to contest the outcome of Saturday’s Selangor PKR division elections after losing the race for the position of division chiefs.

Lee said he had received numerous calls and messages questioning the transparency of the polling process and confirmed that his team would be submitting an official appeal to the party’s election committee.
