KUALA LUMPUR:
The Credit Counselling and Debt Management Agency (AKPK) approved more than 112,000 new cases under its debt management programme (DMP) over the past two years

AKPK, which released its 2023–2024 Biennial Report here today, said it approved 60,155 DMP cases last year and 52,057 in 2023.

It also collected RM1.73 billion in repayments in 2024, a 15.9% increase from the RM1.49 billion in repayments it collected in 2023.

AKPK said the DMP participants also saw their debt service ratio (DSR) reduced from 84% to 40%, indicating improved financial stability and reduced repayment strain.

DSR measures borrowers’ ability to repay debts by dividing their total monthly debt obligations by their net monthly income.
