PM’s aide, Sungai Petani MP win PKR divisional chief posts in Kedah

Former Alor Setar MP Chan Ming Kai and Sungai Petani MP Dr Taufiq Johari secured key wins in Kedah’s PKR division elections yesterday, according to official results released this morning by the party’s election committee.

Chan, who is also Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s political secretary, won the Alor Setar division chief post after defeating Ang Say Thong with 932 votes to 471.

Outgoing division chief Zamri Yusuf won the deputy post, polling 768 votes against Fadhlurrahman Zawawi’s 621.

Taufiq won uncontested in Sungai Petani, while Bakar Arang assemblyman Loh Wei Chai was also elected unopposed as deputy chief.

In Jerai, Firdaus Johari, another son of Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul, lost to S Poobalan over the division chief post.

Langkawi incumbent Ismail Wasi Ahmad Shafawi retained his post, while Ahmad Ramli Shaarani was elected deputy.

Azizi Azizan won in Kubang Pasu, with S Sugumar as deputy.

Other division chief winners include Rudzi Samsudin (Jerlun), Tahar Hussin (Padang Terap), Altab PA Ibrahim (Pokok Sena), Habib Ahmad Muhaiyuddin Habib Danial (Sik), M Yugins (Merbok), S Chandar (Baling), and Yeo Keng Chuan (Kulim Bandar Baharu).

Voting was completed in 15 divisions and for the women’s wing yesterday. PKR Youth polls were postponed due to technical issues and held today.

PKR divisions in Selangor, Perlis and Melaka vote today, with Perak, Negeri Sembilan and Sarawak to follow tomorrow.
