PETALING JAYA:
Police have arrested a man believed to have attempted to rape a woman jogging at Taman Bandaraya Serindit, Melaka, yesterday.

Melaka police chief Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the 27-year-old suspect was arrested at about 12.05am today, about two hours after the victim lodged a report.

“The suspect is believed to have approached the victim from behind before covering her mouth and molesting her.

“He also tried to pull her towards nearby bushes, but she managed to fight back and screamed for help,” he was quoted by Utusan Malaysia as saying.

Dzulkhairi said the suspect tested negative for drugs and is currently under a four-day remand until April 14 for investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 354 of the Penal Code for assault or use of criminal force with intent to outrage the modesty of a person.

Dzulkhairi advised the public to remain vigilant about their personal safety, especially when engaging in activities alone in public areas.
