Judge Zulkipli Abdullah meted out the sentence on Depison Ahlan, an Indonesian assistant salesman, after he pleaded guilty to the charge, Harian Metro reported.

Depison was charged with seeking and obtaining pornographic videos of an 11-year-old girl in Tanah Merah between 1pm and 2.30pm on March 10.

The charge was framed under Section 8(b) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which deals with the offence of seeking, collecting or obtaining child pornography.

The offence is punishable by up to 15 years in prison and at least three strokes of the cane upon conviction.

According to the facts of the case, a complainant had lodged a police report claiming that the victim had been threatened by Depison.

The complainant had noticed that the girl’s behaviour had changed and she would often remain in her room. After checking the victim’s phone, the complainant found threatening messages and a nude video of the girl.

Depison is said to have threatened to spread the video online if she did not answer a video call. The victim and Depison apparently met through an online mobile phone game and subsequently exchanged numbers.

Depison was arrested on March 27 at the Meru Raya bus terminal in Ipoh, Perak. The police found 59 obscene videos in the archive of his WhatsApp application, including nude videos of the victim.

Deputy public prosecutor Siti Aiysha Na’ilah Harizan prosecuted. Depison was unrepresented.
