Lee Jia Cheng, 32, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to him before magistrate Yusna Khadijah Yusop, Kosmo reported.
Lee is accused of intentionally causing hurt by biting his wife – also 32 – on her forehead, hand, and shoulder at their home at around 3.20am on April 1.
Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Farahana Athirah Yaccob requested a mention date for the submission of documents and appointment of counsel. She also asked that no bail be offered to Lee, saying he and his wife, the complainant, lived under the same roof.
Lee, who was unrepresented, however requested bail, citing financial responsibilities towards his wife, parents, and the couple’s two-year-old child.
The court granted bail of RM6,000 with the condition that Lee refrain from disturbing his wife, any witnesses, or third parties.
It also ordered Lee to report to the nearest police station once a month.
The case is set for mention on May 15.
