KUALA LUMPUR:
Petronas Gas Bhd (PGB) is actively evaluating both the financial and operational impacts of the fire at its main pipeline in Putra Heights.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, the company said it was also cooperating with the relevant authorities to determine the cause of the incident and identify the contributing factors.

“The investigation is expected to be completed by May 2025. The company’s utmost priorities as we recover from this incident are ensuring the safety of people, assisting those impacted and preserving the security of gas supply,” PGB said.

As part of its ongoing efforts, the company said it was assessing potential remediation measures and working closely with the relevant authorities to ensure a safe and efficient resumption of operations in the area.

“The company remains committed to resolving this matter as the highest priority and will continue to provide updates and announcements as the situation evolves,” it said.

‘Less than 1% seriously traumatised’

Women, family and community minister Nancy Shukri meanwhile said that 253 victims had received counselling assistance at the one-stop social support centre set up at the temporary relief centre.

She said reports from the counselling sessions revealed that only a small number of victims appeared to have experienced serious trauma.

“Yes, there are some who suffer serious trauma, but not that many. In terms of percentage, it is probably less than 1%.

“Most of these victims just want to get out of here (relief centre) to get fresh air and have someone to talk and share their problems with.

“So through these counselling sessions, we not only provide emotional support but also identify the specific needs of the victims,” she told reporters after visiting the victims at the relief centre at the Putra Heights Mosque today.
