PETALING JAYA:
National oil and gas firm Petronas has cancelled its Hari Raya celebrations across the company out of respect for the victims of the gas pipeline blaze in Putra Heights.

According to The Borneo Post, this includes the Petronas Rindok Aidilfitri open house that was scheduled to take place in Kuching, Sarawak, on April 11.

“On behalf of the board and management of Petronas, we regret to inform you that all Petronas Hari Raya celebrations across the group have been cancelled.

“This is a mark of respect and solidarity for the communities affected by the recent health and safety incident in Subang Jaya, and the frontliners who are working to support the recovery efforts,” the company was quoted as saying.

The fire, which broke out on Tuesday morning along Jalan Putra Harmoni, engulfed a 500m section of the gas pipeline, causing severe damage to homes and vehicles.

A total of 235 premises were affected by the blaze, with 87 completely burnt and 148 damaged. Some 400 vehicles were also affected, with 225 burnt and 174 damaged.

As of 10pm yesterday, one victim remained in intensive care while 47 others were still being treated in hospital.
