One resident who asked to remain anonymous claimed that the same dogs had attacked and injured a university lecturer two years ago, and that the owner failed to learn his lesson, Harian Metro reported.
“He failed to learn from the first incident in 2023, even though the university lecturer suffered serious injuries. The owner claimed that the dogs got out because his automatic gate was faulty.
“He should have kept them in a cage from the start, knowing that Rottweilers would take any opportunity to escape,” the resident reportedly said.
The resident said many were angry over the incident and that the owner must pay for the pain and trauma the dogs had caused the victims.
Another resident expressed disappointment over the lack of action by local authorities against the owner, saying the dogs should have been closely monitored after the first incident.
Yesterday, Baling police chief Azmi Mokhtar confirmed that five people had been hurt after being bitten by two dogs believed to be Rottweilers.
The owner, 69, later confined the dogs but was instructed to surrender them to the Kulim veterinary office for examination and immediate quarantine.
A viral social media post showed the individuals receiving treatment and being transported by ambulance after the attack.
Police said yesterday that the extent of their injuries was unknown.
Today, Azmi said the owner of the dogs and the five victims, aged between 50 and 66, had given their statements.
The owner gave his statement last night and was not arrested.
The case is being probed under Section 289 of the Penal Code for negligence with respect to an animal, which is punishable by up to six months in prison, a maximum RM2,000 fine, or both, if convicted.
