PIAM chairman Ng Kok Kheng said victims with insurance policies related to motor, personal accidents, retail fire, homeowners or householders are eligible for expedited claims.
“We recognise the emotional and financial toll this tragic event has had on families and business owners,” he said in a statement.
“Our industry is committed to making the claims process as smooth as possible, ensuring that policyholders receive the assistance they need.
“We are anticipating a large number of claims as property and vehicle owners begin to head back to the affected area, and are prepared to support them every step of the way.”
Ng said victims should contact their insurers as soon as possible, even if they have not yet returned home.
“Support is available directly through insurers, via agents and brokers, or through online platforms such as the Digital Roadside Assistance application,” he added.
The fire, which broke out yesterday morning along Jalan Putra Harmoni, engulfed a 500m section of a gas pipeline, leaving 111 people injured — with many requiring hospitalisation for burns and respiratory issues.
A total of 399 vehicles were affected, with 225 burnt and 174 damaged. Some 538 residents from 120 families have also been forced to seek shelter at two temporary relief centres.
