PETALING JAYA:
A pair of dogs left behind during the gas pipeline blast in Putra Heights have been rescued by a voluntary fire brigade, who are now pleading for their owners to come forward.

Ken Foo, who leads the Seers voluntary fire brigade, said his team found the canines while patrolling a housing area which had been evacuated.

“We saw the two dogs at two different homes. Both of them appeared to be in a daze and were unable to walk.

“They were also tied up. We freed them and rushed them to a veterinary clinic in Taman Megah,” he told FMT.

Once at the clinic, the dogs were found to be suffering from smoke inhalation. They were given oxygen and put on IV drips.

“The clinic was kind enough to carry out these treatments for free, along with a full blood check.”

In addition to the dogs, three rabbits and a guinea pig were also rescued. Unlike the dogs, these animals have since been reclaimed by their owners, he said.

“We would like to urge owners of these dogs to contact us to reunite with their dogs,” he said.

Anyone with information or looking to reclaim the pets can reach the Seers brigade at 012-6088871.

Meanwhile, Bernama reported that the Malaysian Animal Association is offering free pet care services for seven days, until April 8, to pet owners affected by the gas pipeline fire.

Its president, Arie Dwi Andika, said the offer covers small animals such as cats, rabbits, birds, hamsters, hedgehogs and pet civets.

“All these animals will be housed at the Galeri Animal Malaysia shelter along Jalan Ipoh.”

Arie said pet owners in need of temporary care services can contact them at 011-71245931.

A massive gas pipeline fire raged along Jalan Putra Harmoni, Putra Heights, this morning. A 500m section of the pipeline was engulfed in flames.

Flames from the gas explosion spread to several houses, forcing residents to be evacuated. More than 200 homes and several hundred vehicles were damaged.
