PETALING JAYA:
Prasarana Malaysia Bhd is planning to install platform sensors at LRT stations as part of efforts to enhance passenger safety, particularly for persons with disabilities, following a fatal accident at the Titiwangsa LRT station.

Prasarana president and group CEO Azharuddin Mat Sah said this after visiting Rapid KL personnel on duty during Hari Raya Aidilfitri at the Pasar Seni bus and rail hub today.

“As a mid-term solution, we plan to collaborate with the authorities to install sensors that will alert us if a passenger crosses into a dangerous area,” Bernama quoted Azharuddin as saying.

On Feb 22, a visually impaired man fell onto the Titiwangsa LRT tracks and was fatally struck by a train.

Azharuddin said Prasarana has since submitted an investigation report on the incident to the transport ministry and the land public transport agency (APAD).

As a long-term measure, he said, Prasarana will begin installing platform screen doors, similar to those used in MRT stations.

The company will also deploy more auxiliary police and operational staff at platforms, particularly at stations frequently used by persons with disabilities.
