PETALING JAYA:
A hardware store and six eateries at Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah in Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur, were destroyed in a fire this afternoon.

The Kuala Lumpur fire and rescue department said no casualties were reported.

In a statement, the department said it received an emergency call at 1.36pm and firefighters from the Sentul, Jalan Hang Tuah and Titiwangsa fire and rescue stations were sent to the scene immediately.

The department’s operations commander, Yogeswaran Elangovan, said the fire originated from the hardware store measuring 50 sq ft by 100 sq ft.

He said the store and the six eateries, each measuring 20 sq ft by 50 sq ft, were destroyed.

“Strong winds caused the flames to spread rapidly,” he said, adding that the cause of the fire is still being investigated.
