Terengganu’s chief shariah enforcement officer, Aizi Saidi Abd Aziz, said judge Mat Ropi Busu handed down the sentence after the 38-year-old pleaded guilty to the charge on Monday.
“She has paid the fine and is serving her sentence at the Pengkalan Chepa women’s detention centre in Kelantan until March 28,” he said, as reported by Kosmo.
The woman was charged under Section 19(a) of the Terengganu Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment 2001.
The prosecution was handled by shariah deputy public prosecutor Khanurulhajja Mustaffa.
The woman was arrested during an enforcement raid by the Terengganu Islamic religious affairs department under Op Supik Hitam at a house in Setiu at 12.15pm on March 18.
“She was detained for selling food and drinks to individuals believed to be skipping their fast.
“Her actions in selling and supplying food to Muslims during daylight hours show a blatant disregard for the sanctity of Ramadan,” Aizi said.
