Man falls off Penang bridge, search operation launched

PETALING JAYA:
A search and rescue operation was launched today after a man fell off the Penang Bridge.

Timur Laut police chief Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the incident was reported by a member of the public around 12.21am.

“A search and rescue operation led by the police was launched at 10.30am. The suspect has yet to be found,” he said in a statement.

Rozak also said an abandoned white Proton Iswara was found parked near Km6.7 of the bridge (Perai-bound), where a pair of shoes and a bag, believed to belong to the driver, were discovered.

“Further checks revealed that the vehicle was registered to a 64-year-old local from Jelutong, Penang. His next of kin have been notified,” he added.
