PN Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden said Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, and Perlis had recorded an increase in economic growth every year, despite limited support from Putrajaya which he said made it difficult to woo investors.
“It’s incorrect to say that there has not been any economic growth or development in opposition-led states,” he told FMT.
However, he provided no data to back his claim.
Afnan was responding to PKR vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, who claimed that the four PAS-led states had not seen any significant change in terms of the economy and development.
Nik Nazmi, who is also a federal minister, said this when suggesting that PN should prove it could manage the economy of these four states and develop it, if it wanted to show that it could administer the country and resolve issues such as the cost of living.
Afnan said PN had already shown that it could govern the country during its 30-odd months as part of the government.
PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin was prime minister for 17 months while the tenure of his successor, Barisan Nasional’s Ismail Sabri Yaakob, lasted for 15 months.
“During this time, the cost of living was not as high as it is today, with various aid initiatives provided to ease the people’s burden,” the Alor Setar MP said.
Afnan also called on the federal government to facilitate investments and matters that require federal approval and support.
