PETALING JAYA:
A group representing Kelantan folk residing and working in the Klang Valley has played down a campaign to get those living in Selangor to change their voting address.

Persatuan Anak Kelantan Perantauan president Wan Aminuddin Wan Hussin said the campaign was being pushed for political needs, adding that it was similar to past campaigns urging those who hail from Kelantan to return home to vote.

Wan Aminuddin said political needs were not necessarily the main consideration for them to change where they cast their votes.

He said some Kelantan folk living here insist on voting in their hometowns as they want their place of birth to be developed, while the elections also allow them to head back to visit their family members.

“Voters have options and how they vote is their right. So it’s up to them if they want to change their voting address. There should be no compulsion,” he told FMT.

Last week, Selangor PAS commissioner Ab Halim Tamuri reportedly called on PAS supporters from Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah living in Selangor to change their voting address so that they would vote here instead.

Halim, the Paya Jaras assemblyman, said this would help Perikatan Nasional wrest Selangor from Pakatan Harapan in the next state election.

Amanah’s Shah Alam MP Azli Yusof mocked the campaign, however, saying it showed that PAS was desperate for support in Selangor and lacked solid ideas that would attract voters.
