Izuan, who is the Selangor PKR Youth chief, said he is offering himself as a candidate for the post for the 2025-2028 term.
“I humbly seek the support of my fellow comrades in driving the youth wing forward towards the 16th general election,” he said in a Facebook post today.
In July last year, FMT quoted a party source as saying that Selangor PKR Youth had undergone a reshuffle as its chief (Izuan) was eyeing a top post at the party’s central level.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, the PKR leader said the reshuffle was to consolidate Izuan’s position ahead of the party elections.
The source said Izuan was likely aiming for the number two position at the central level, hence a new deputy, Iman Haziq Hamizi, had been appointed for the Selangor youth chapter.
Iman is expected to be appointed Selangor PKR Youth chief at the party polls this year.
Others who took up new positions included M Sivabalan (vice-chief 1), Christopher Ong (vice-chief 2), Afif Abdullah (secretary-general) and Noor Atillah Abdullah Sani (information chief).
Izuan had previously said the reshuffle was aimed at fine-tuning Selangor PKR Youth’s operations.
He also said he was open to contesting a top PKR Youth post, depending on the level of support he could obtain from the party grassroots.
Izuan said although he had garnered the most number of votes in the contest for the post of PKR Youth vice-chief at the party’s elections in 2022, he lost the position after an audit was conducted on the results.
Separately, Berita Harian reported that Sungai Petani MP Taufiq Johari has also decided to throw his hat into the ring for the PKR Youth deputy chief’s post.
Taufiq, who is the Sungai Petani PKR chief, said yesterday he made his decision after consulting activists at both the national and state levels on his next political move.
