
PETALING JAYA: A heavy downpour which lasted several hours yesterday caused flooding in three districts in Johor, forcing nearly 900 people to flee their homes.
State disaster management committee chairman Azmi Rohani said a total of 893 people had been evacuated to 10 temporary relief centres in Johor Bahru, Kulai, and Pontian as of 8am today.
“Johor Bahru recorded the highest number of evacuees with 567 people, followed by Kulai (269) and Pontian (57),” he said, according to Bernama.
Three districts in Sabah were also hit by floods. According to the social welfare department’s InfoBencana portal, some 108 victims were evacuated to four relief centres.
The worst-hit district was Beluran with 92 victims, followed by Sandakan (13) and Paitan (three).
