PETALING JAYA:
Satok assemblyman Ibrahim Baki has been made Sarawak’s deputy utility and telecommunications minister (Sarawak Energy Bhd and Petroleum Sarawak Bhd), effective today.

The Sarawak premier’s office made this announcement in a statement following the swearing-in ceremony today.

The Borneo Post earlier reported that Ibrahim, who is a Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu vice-president, had taken his oath of office at Astana Negeri Sarawak in Petra Jaya before state governor Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar this morning.

Ibrahim is a lawyer and was previously a legal officer with Petronas. He is currently chairman of Sarawak Energy Bhd.

Sarawak premier Abang Johari Openg was quoted as saying that Ibrahim’s appointment had prompted a minor reshuffle in the state Cabinet.

The changes include Pantai Damai assemblyman Abdul Rahman Junaidi assuming the position of deputy minister in the Sarawak premier’s department (project coordinator for regional development agency, Kuching North City Council and Islamic affairs) effective today.

“The new appointments and minor reshuffle of the state Cabinet aim to strengthen the Gabungan Parti Sarawak government’s service delivery to the rakyat and to boost investment in the energy sector, including the oil and gas industry.

“This move will also enable the Sarawak government to effectively strategise its efforts towards achieving the state’s vision of being a developed and high-income region by 2030 under the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030,” he added.
