In a Facebook post, Salleh said a strong alliance must focus on growing the economy, attracting investments, creating jobs, and strengthening Sabah’s revenue sources.
“Quick solutions are needed for immediate concerns. People expect fast action on cost of living, unemployment, and infrastructure issues, (and) an alliance must be able to deliver results quickly,” he said.
“Restructuring the economy for long-term growth is critical. Sabah must reduce its dependency on federal allocations and develop a sustainable economic model for future generations.”
The Usukan assemblyman said that apart from economic growth and infrastructure development, any alliance that governs the state after the next polls must ensure the inclusivity of all communities and work towards strengthening Sabah’s rights and economic independence.
Stressing that stability is key to ensuring that Sabahans have confidence in the state government, he said a strong alliance must have a structured decision-making process, clear leadership, and shared policy direction to ensure its long-term survival.
Salleh, the Sabah Umno treasurer, also said that alliances based on political convenience should be avoided.
While short-term political convenience might win elections, Salleh warned that such pacts often result in internal power struggles and weak governance.
“Winning an election is not the final goal. The real question is: what will the alliance do after winning? A clear roadmap for governance is crucial,” he said.
“An alliance should not just be about winning an election. It must be built on a clear vision, strong policies, and long-term stability to govern effectively.
“A strong, well-planned alliance will not only win elections but also ensure lasting political and economic stability for the people.”
The Sabah state election must be held by the end of the year.
