Young couple killed in crash near Yong Peng

BATU PAHAT:
A man and his wife were killed in an accident at Km128.3 of the North-South Expressway (northbound) near Yong Peng here yesterday when their car collided with a sports utility vehicle.

Batu Pahat district police chief Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said Shahrul Nizam Ali, 24, and Norsuhada Kartika Razak, 23, died on the spot in the 6.30am accident from severe head injuries.

In a statement today, he said the accident was believed to have occurred when the car lost control, crashed into the metal guardrail, and spun before coming to a stop across the road.

“Unable to avoid the couple’s car in time, the SUV crashed into their vehicle,” he said.

Shahrulanuar said the couple, who reside in Kota Tinggi, were pronounced dead at the scene.

He said the 50-year-old SUV driver, who sustained chest injuries, was sent to the Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital in Muar for treatment.

Shahrulanuar said the case is classified under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
