In a Facebook post, Lim described media reports suggesting his withdrawal were “unverified and false”.
“But Guan Eng will never withdraw from the election. My future will be decided by DAP members,” he said.
Lim was responding to reports by Chinese media quoting sources that he might announce his withdrawal at the party’s national convention tomorrow, where the CEC polls will also take place.
One of the reports shared in the Facebook post claimed that Lim had decided to step aside after a meeting with party leaders yesterday.
The Bagan MP also took the opportunity to thank his supporters for their concern and encouraged them to attend the party congress.
“Thank you to party comrades for your concern. See you at the party congress!”
FMT previously reported that there was a “concerted push” to oust Lim from his leadership position in DAP.
Certain factions within DAP are advocating for Penang chief minister Chow Kon Yeow to take over as chairman. However, a significant number of members support Lim’s continued leadership, viewing him as a strong personality, unafraid to stand up to PKR and Umno.
On Friday, five DAP election delegates urged Lim to withdraw from the CEC race, with one suggesting that it was time for him to step aside for the younger generation.
