Umno Youth backs travel ban on PTPTN loan defaulters

Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh says borrowers should be able to repay their loans if they can go overseas for a vacation.

Deputy higher education minister Mustapha Sakmud had said the government was considering reinstating a travel ban on PTPTN borrowers who default on repaying their loans.
KANGAR:
Umno Youth agrees with a proposal for the government to reimpose a travel ban on National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) borrowers who default on repaying their loans.

Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh said the borrowers involved must be responsible about settling their debts with PTPTN for the sake of future generations.

“If you can go abroad for a holiday, don’t tell me you can’t pay your debt,” he told reporters at a Perlis Umno Youth event here last night.

Akmal was responding to deputy higher education minister Mustapha Sakmud, who told the Dewan Negara yesterday that the government was considering bringing back the travel ban.

Mustapha reportedly said this was among the measures being considered by the government to boost loan repayments among PTPTN borrowers.
