
Azlan Sudin, an inspector overseeing a district police station, was accused alongside another person still at large of stealing the money and a black Prada bag belonging to Lee Hooi Leng, 35, at a condominium unit in Twin Arkz, Bukit Jalil, at around 5.45pm on Feb 21.
Azlan, 45, was charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code with theft, read with Section 34, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a fine, upon conviction.
Magistrate Farah Nabihah Dan set bail at RM3,000 with one surety and scheduled the next mention for May 21.
Azlan was represented by lawyer Huang Yee Ching while deputy public prosecutor Amritpreet Kaur Randhawa led the prosecution.
In a separate magistrates’ court, Azlan also pleaded not guilty to intentionally omitting to apprehend a person whom he was legally obligated to arrest.
He was accused of deliberately allowing Tan Hou, 35, who was under investigation for an offence under Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960, to evade arrest at the Bukit Jalil police station lobby at around 6.50pm on Feb 21.
He was charged under Section 221(c) of the Penal Code, which carries a punishment of up to two years in prison, upon conviction.
Magistrate Noorelynna Hanim Halim granted bail of RM3,000 with one surety and set May 19 for mention.
Deputy public prosecutor Nursyuhada Husna Sulaiman handled the prosecution for the second case.
