Saravanan said the wrongdoing was committed by three radio hosts from the station, not the entire staff.
He also highlighted that the radio station had issued a public apology and suspended the three Era FM radio hosts featured in the controversial video as well as two other staff members.
“We are worried that the radio station’s suspension would affect the livelihood of many.
“It would be unfair for other staff of the radio station to suffer because of the wrongdoing of just three employees, especially in this holy month of Ramadan,” the Tapah MP said in a statement.
Yesterday, it was reported that MCMC had issued a notice of intent to suspend the licence of the operator of Era FM.
The commission gave the licensee 30 days to submit a response before any final decision is made.
It had also summoned Astro’s top management yesterday following the controversy.
Saravanan said the radio hosts involved had made a serious misstep in the name of content creation but are now already facing the repercussions.
“Their intention may not have been to create chaos or animosity but we must allow the legal process to take its course so that there is no recurrence of such incidents,” he added.
On Tuesday, Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said the staff at the radio station are being probed under Section 298 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
