KUALA LUMPUR:
The Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2025, which forms the basis of the Parliamentary Services Bill 2025, was passed in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Tabled for its second reading by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim this morning, the bill was debated by 18 MPs.

It was passed with a two-thirds majority after its second and third readings.

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul said 148 MPs had voted to pass the bill, while 57 abstained and 17 were absent from the second reading.

The bill, which seeks to amend articles 56, 57 and 65 of the Federal Constitution, was tabled in Parliament to make way for the government to table the Parliamentary Services Bill.

Anwar said the three constitutional amendments and the Parliamentary Services Bill would enable Parliament to function as a truly independent and sovereign institution.
