KUALA LUMPUR:
DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng has suggested that the allocation in next year’s budget for non-Bumiputera communities be increased to 10% of the allocation for Bumiputeras.

Lim (PH-Bagan) said he supports the allocation of any amount for Bumiputeras, but the percentage of non-Bumiputera allocations should also be increased accordingly.

“For example, if RM12 billion is allocated to the Bumiputeras, 10% or RM1.2 billion should be given to the non-Bumiputeras.

“This is in line with the unity government’s care for all citizens,” he said when debating the Supplementary Supply (2024) Bill 2025 in the Dewan Rakyat.

Lim said non-Bumiputera communities were allocated only 3%, or RM345 million, of the RM11.4 billion allocated to the Bumiputeras in the 2022 budget.

He said he had asked then prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob to explain the large gap in allocations between the races.

In the 2022 budget, RM11.4 billion was allocated to the Bumiputera community, RM274 million to the Orang Asli communities, and RM345 million to the Chinese and Indian communities.
