Takiyuddin said he contacted Fadillah via text after reading media reports about the committee’s formation, Berita Harian reported.
“I texted him (Fadillah) asking, ‘Is this true?’ He replied, ‘You need to submit a letter first, then I will set up the committee’,” he was quoted as saying at a press conference in Parliament today.
Describing this as a precondition, Takiyuddin said the opposition would deliberate on its next steps.
Opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin, who was also at the press conference, said they would send a letter to Fadillah seeking confirmation on whether the committee’s formation hinges on a formal request.
“If that is indeed the case, we are prepared to agree to the establishment of the committee,” he said.
Yesterday, Fadillah was reported as saying that the government had agreed to establish a committee to discuss proposals on allocations for opposition MPs.
He said the committee was needed to carefully assess opposition proposals and reach a comprehensive, consensus-based solution.
PN had previously rejected a draft memorandum of understanding from the government regarding allocations for its MPs.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had said there were no conditions requiring opposition MPs to support him in order to receive allocations for their constituencies.
